About

I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO SPENT ALMOST FIVE YEARS LIVING AND WORKING IN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK AS A PRESERVATION ARCHITECT. WHILE AT YOSEMITE, MY FREE TIME WAS SPENT TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS WHILE EXPLORING THE AREA. PRIOR TO MY YOSEMITE EXPERIENCE MY PHOTOGRAPHIC FOCUS WAS ON THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. MY YOSEMITE EXPERIENCE CAUSED MY FOCUS TO SHIFT FROM THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT TO LANDSCAPES AND WILDLIFE.

IN 2012 I VISITED THE BLACK HILLS WILD HORSE SANCTUARY FOR THE FIRST TIME. I MET A SPANISH MUSTANG NAMED DON JUAN. HE HAS BECOME MY MUSE. I BECAME CONNECTED TO HIM AND THE OTHER HORSES INSTANTLY. THEIR COLLECTIVE WILL TO SURVIVE AND THE INDIVIDUAL JOURNEYS THEY HAVE TAKEN TO GET TO PLACES OF "SAFETY" LIKE THE BLACK HILLS WILD HORSE SANCTUARY HAVE BECOME THE MAIN DRIVER FOR MY ARTWORK. WILD AMERICAN EQUINE ARE IN PERIL; THEIR HABITAT; BLOODLINES; SOCIETAL STRUCTURES AND LIVES ARE THREATENED. MY MAIN BODY OF PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK FOCUSES UPON DOCUMENTING THEIR STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL.

IN 2017 I RECEIVED A INSPIRATION GRANT FORM ARTSKC,WHICH HAS PARTIALLY FUNDED A DOCUMENTATION PROJECT CALLED WILD EQUINE RUNNING FREE.
